Composite Poly(ethylene oxide) Electrolytes Plasticized by N-Alkyl-N-butylpyrrolidinium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide for Lithium Batterie

In this work we report a new class of quaternary polymer electrolyte membranes comprising poly(ethylene oxide), PEO, lithium trifluoromethanesulfonylimide, LiTFSI, salt, N-alkyl-N-butyl-pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, PyrA,4TFSI, ionic liquid, and SiO2-filler. Results of differential scanning calorimetry indicate that the addition of SiO2-filler induces a reduction of the PEO melting enthalpy, as well as of its crystallinity degree with positive reflection in enhancement of ionic conductivity and of lithium transference number. The electrochemical stability is proved by using impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Lithium cells assembled using the quaternary polymer electrolyte and LiFePO4 cathodes show enhanced behavior with respect to those based on conventional PEO-lithium salt electrolytes.
