The "Gabriele D'Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara ( was first instituted as an independent university in 1960. In 1982 it gained the status of national university and has grown and is continuing to grow steadily since then. The annual turnover is approximately of 147 million €, out of which about 15 % are related to research activities. Around 20 % of the research funding is acquired in competition from external sources (public and private). More than 35.000 people, including 32.000 undergraduate students, work and study in the 24 departments. About 450 students are involved in doctoral programs. Since 1982 the University of Chieti-Pescara has participated in several EU funded research projects (presently 5 projects of the 7FP) and is involved in approximately 40 research, industrial and educational project within different national and international programs, yielding annual revenues of 7 million €.

Role in the project
Leader of WP 5 Optimization of the electrode materials, UNICH will also contribute, as task leader in WP4, by performing the synthesis and the characterization of both gel electrolytes based on electro spun polymer separators and electro spun anodes and cathodes based, respectively, on Sn/C and Li2S/C nano-composite structures. In addition, it will contribute to WP7 by developing an optimized geometry to realize the scaling-up of the electro spinning process and to the elementary kinetic modelling (WP3) and to the performance and safety tests of small half and full cells (WP 9). Furthermore, UNICH participates in WP1, 2, and 11.
